When we heard about this project we thought of the luck to have the chance to meet a special guy like Andrea Stella. A person who gave a wing shot after an accident that forced him onto a pram and that would put most of us down. With his catamaran “Spirit of Stella”, the first in the world accessible to disabled people, he realized the project WoW – Wheels on Waves.
A journey started in Miami in April 2017 with an important first stop at the United Nations headquarters in New York to receive from the Secretary General António Guterres the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. After many months of navigation and countless stages, with always different crews, a delegation, led by Andrea, gave the convention to Pope Francis. The goal, widely achieved, was to give “universal” visibility to a very important tool for all disabled people and at the same time to demonstrate that if we join for a common purpose we can transform barriers into opportunities.
We got on board, giving our contribution, when the Spirit of Stella landed on the Italian coasts and we have followed it since then and for years to follow in a path that is always ended with the Barcolana of Trieste. An experience that has enriched us humanly and of which we are proud to have made a part of the journey together. To learn more visit the site: http://it.wheelsonwaves.com
